Katie Teems, AFHA AmeriCorps Member

Katie Teems was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia where she got her first job as a ghost tour guide leading folks around the historic square by lantern-light. She earned her B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish from Georgia State University where she held a position as an academic writing tutor to both undergraduate and graduate students. She also volunteered as an English Composition tutor to high school students at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School, which is a preparatory school in downtown Atlanta for children from low-income families. She loves listening to people who have interesting stories, hiking, cooking, writing, reading, stargazing. and painting ("writing") iconography, and she feels that life is best-lived with the eyes of a child. Katie developed a love of community and has a passion for serving others with her talents, which led her to apply to AmeriCorps  and seek a position in community development.
