Tucker County makes top 10 for business growth

Small Business is Big Business in Tucker County

It is always nice to start the day with positive news.  The state's Big Industry Growth Map report was published and shows that Tucker County businesses grew by 7.14% this last year.  To put this in perspective, Tucker County has been in the "top 10" for business growth for three years running amongst all 55 counties in West Virginia.

You can access it here: http://apps.sos.wv.gov/business/BIG/

Many of our businesses are small, employing just one or two people.  But in a small county this has a big impact on jobs, economic health and community spirit.

There are many reasons for this positive business growth: but a few stand out to me:

Tucker County is a welcoming community and provides a quality of life where people want to live and work

Corridor H  and faster internet speeds are making it easier for people to work here

People are getting involved in their community programs like PRO, New HIstoric Thomas, Run For It

The county has been working together across municipalities in projects like Tucker County Day

Our County and state and representatives are actively involved with the success of business

WV Small Business Development Center has provided business coaching for our entrepreneurs including a dedicated business coach  for this region

WVU Extension and Potomac Highlands Food and Farm Initiatives have supported business growth for our farmers

Tucker County Development Authority Board has been dedicated its mission of supporting business while preserving our heritage.

Please celebrate this news by spending money at a local business today.

Tucker County Day in Charleston - February 5th! How can your business or organization get involved?

The Tucker County Economic Development Authority is kicking off this year focusing on strengthening the country's business environment with an event in Charleston called "Tucker County Day" on Wednesday, February 5th.

The day will provide a chance to highlight the county's strengths and opportunities while addressing the challenges that the county faces. The event will start in the morning with a breakfast of local foods that will be cooked and service by our high school vocational program students. It will proceed with a proclamation of "Tucker County Day" read in the State House of Representatives as well as meetings with our delegates and key leaders addressing issues of agriculture, broadband, highways, and tourism. The event will also host tables in the Rotunda highlighting our county and its businesses and organizations. February 5th will be shared with Preston County, which will allow Tucker County to make a larger impact and conserve our financial resources.

Every Tucker County business and organization is invited to participate. You can be involved in two ways:

1. In-person - You can sign up to reserve a presentation table in the rotunda. You can then also take part in the rest of the day's events.

2. Sending materials - Your business or organization can plan to send down pamphlets/promotional materials for a general Tucker County information table.

If your business or organization wants to reserve a table in the rotunda, please complete the form by Thursday, January 23rd. You can download the form here.
